USA Student Center, Terrace Room

Dr. Mehnaz Afridi teaches contemporary Islam and the
Holocaust at Manhattan College. Many of her courses are
focused on concerns relating to religion and politics. In her
classes she treats contemporary issues of religious identity
including gender, race and class. She also deals with the
problems of religious bias and competition as these shape,
and are shaped by, questions of identity. She is deeply
invested in interfaith work both in her scholarship and as
director of the Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Education
Center. She is committed to preserving the memory of
Holocaust survivors-involving students, community
members, and local survivors in this work. She believes
people with religious commitments should focus on trying to understand the faiths and beliefs of others.
